I would like to discuss getting a ban of the use of engine brakes (often referred as Jake braking) by trucks on Mass Ave as it is a residential road. Many towns have instituted bans as their use can be very noisy.
I have read that the most engine brakes are actually quiet, but truckers need to muffle them correctly. So to avoid contentions with truckers it may be best to post signs saying No Loud Engine Braking. I am sure I can’t be the only one that finds them loud and obnoxious in the middle of the night. I have also read that they are really designed for use on hilly or downhill areas and that there use in the city is probably not even necessary.
